Shooting Star (genus Dodecatheon) is a perennial herbaceous plant of Primulaceae family (primrose).

Shooting Star (genus Dodecatheon) is a perennial herbaceous plant of Primulaceae family (primrose). Most of the 13 known species are native to western North America; 6 to Canada. D. hendersonii and D. jeffreyi occur in coastal BC; D. dentatum in southern BC; D. frigidum in northern BC, coastal Yukon Territory and Mackenzie River delta. These 4 species grow on damp meadows, heaths and streambanks, in low to high elevations. D. conjugens ranges from southeastern BC to southwestern Saskatchewan in seepage areas, in sagebrush plains and up to alpine meadows. D. pauciflorum, the most widespread, is found from the Mackenzie Delta to southern Manitoba, in meadows, open woods, moist slopes and saline places.
