Moses Hart
Moses Hart, businessman, landowner (b at Trois-Rivières 26 Nov 1768; d there 15 Oct 1852), brother of Benjamin Hart. An eccentric but adept businessman, Hart began his career in Sorel by running a general store and then extended into the import-export business. His most prominent business ventures later included steam navigation and banking, and he was one of the first shareholders of the Bank of Montreal and the Bank of Canada. His desire for a political career was never satisfied, as he repeatedly failed to be elected to the House of Assembly. He nevertheless made his mark as a landed proprietor, owning many properties on the south shore of the St Lawrence as well as around Trois-Rivières.
