Bernier, Madeleine

Madeleine Bernier. Pianist, accompanist, b Quebec City 26 Aug 1929; deuxième prix piano (CMQ) 1953, B MUS (Laval) 1953, teaching diploma (Institut Jacques-Dalcroze, London) 1957. She studied 1950-3 at the CMQ with Guy Bourassa and Henri Gagnon (piano) and Ria Lenssens (solfège) and at Laval University with Jeanne Landry (theory). On a grant from the Quebec government she completed her studies 1953-6 in Paris with Antoine Reboulot and in London with Norman Greenwood, and also took courses in Dalcroze eurhythmics in Paris, London, and Geneva. She taught 1959-60 at the School of Education and the School of Music of Laval University. She became accompanist at the CMQ in 1960 and was accompanist in 1973 at the Académie internationale d'été in Nice for the classes of Jean-Pierre Rampal (flute), Mady Mesplé (opera), and Hans Sittner (lieder), and for the class of Albert Lance (voice) in 1983. She also accompanied the Italian opera classes given by Ettore Campogalliani at the Mozarteum in Salzburg during the summer of 1979. She accompanied several performers at various competitions including those of the Quebec Symphony Orchestra, the CBC, the MSO Concours, the Prix d'Europe, the Canadian Music Competitions, and the International Oboe Competition in Toulon. In 1990 she accompanied the class of the Swiss-German oboist Thomas Indermühle at the Domaine Forget in St- Irénée. She married François Magnan.
