Bryan (Reginald) Gillingham. Gillingham taught high school music 1970-2 in Corner Brook, Nfld, and lectured at Memorial U 1970-2, Mount Allison University 1972-3, the University of Alberta 1975-6, and the University of Ottawa 1977-9. He joined the teaching faculty of Carleton University's music department in 1976 and became chairman in 1984. At Carleton University, Gillingham has directed the early music ensembles 1976-82 and was director of the Carleton University Chorus 1985-8.

Gillingham's PH D thesis is titled 'A history of the polyphonic sequence in the middle ages'. As a specialist in early music, he has presented papers for meetings of the American Musicological Society and the Learned Societies, and at such special conventions as the 1981 'Twelfth-Century Genres' conference at the University of California and the 1984 'Convegno Internazionale sulla Sequenza Medievale' in Milan. He became director of the Institute of Mediaeval Music in Ottawa in 1985. With Donald Beecher, he is co-editor of Dovehouse Editions, a series of performing editions of early music. By 1990, over 50 volumes had been produced, including 18 personally edited by Gillingham and Beecher.
