Thérèse Deniset. Soprano, teacher, b St Boniface, Man, 11 Apr 1914. After studies in Montreal with Salvator Issaurel she made her debut on radio in the 1937-8 season, then moved to the south of France to study with Ninon Vallin, remaining with the famous soprano and teacher during the war years. She sang leading roles 1941-2 at the Opéra de Lyon and the following season at the Monte Carlo Opera. After the war (1945) she won critical praise for her recital debut in Paris at the Salle Chopin-Pleyel. Returning to Canada in 1947, she was heard on CBC radio and in public recital. Five years later Deniset returned to France, where she performed mainly on radio. Forced by ill health to return to St Boniface, she abandoned her performing career and took up teaching. Her recordings of eight titles appear on one side of the Rococo LP 5354, with several by Ninon Vallin on the other. The Deniset recordings were produced in Winnipeg in 1947 and 1949. She retired to France in 1974.
