Sir William Price, lumber merchant, manufacturer (b at Talca, Chile 30 Aug 1867; d at Kenogami, Qué 2 Oct 1924). The grandson of William PRICE, young Price was educated at private schools in Québec and England before entering the family firm, Price Bros and Company, in 1886. In 1889 he became president, managing-director and owner. Rejuvenating the then tottering company, he used its huge timber limits and capital resources to move into the developing paper industry. Price bought the pulp mill at Jonquière, using its pulp to produce cardboard and then paper. As he concentrated on supplying the American newsprint market, his Kenogami-Jonquière establishment became the largest Canadian producer of newsprint and revived the economic fortunes of the Saguenay. Price was a Conservative MP for Québec West 1908-11. Associated with many Québec business enterprises, he was a strong imperialist and raised 2 companies for the SOUTH AFRICAN WAR. He was accidentally killed while inspecting his timber limits at Kenogami.
