Sir John Chalker Crosbie, merchant, politician (b at Brigus, Nfld 11 Sept 1876; d at St John's 5 Oct 1932). An aggressive and energetic entrepreneur, he created a fortune (which he lost) and started the Crosbie dynasty, which continues to flourish.

Sir John Chalker Crosbie, merchant, politician (b at Brigus, Nfld 11 Sept 1876; d at St John's 5 Oct 1932). An aggressive and energetic entrepreneur, he created a fortune (which he lost) and started the Crosbie dynasty, which continues to flourish. Crosbie founded Crosbie and Co in 1900 and by 1920 was one of the leading fish exporters in Newfoundland. He entered politics as MHA for Bay de Verde in 1908. He was minister of shipping 1918-19 and minister of finance and customs under Prime Minister MONROE from 1924 until 1928, when he retired from politics.
