Pokemouche, NB, Unincorporated Place, 518 (2011c), 515 (2006c). Pokemouche, in the rural area of Inkerman, is located 15 km south of Caraquet, close to the centre of the Acadian Peninsula (south of Chaleur Bay). The marshy lagoon at the mouth of the Pokemouche River prevents port development, but Pokemouche was important in land and river communications. The area was home to 2 Mi'kmaq village sites, 3 campsites and 3 portages.

The first European settlers were Acadian refugees arriving in 1797. English ex-soldiers and many Irish settlers followed after 1800, but French influence is now dominant. The lumber industry that flourished after 1825 declined around 1860, and the labour force is now mostly employed in farming or in service industries. The nearby airport, opened 1978, has improved communications.
