Mockbeggar Plantation

The Mockbeggar Plantation, designated as a provincial HISTORIC SITE in 1990, is closely associated with the history of BONAVISTA, NL. The Mockbeggar Plantation includes several industrial and commercial buildings, including a cod liver oil factory, in addition to a family home built in the 1870s. In 1939 Gordon Bradley, a Bonavista businessman and politician, moved into the house. A prominent advocate of Confederation, Bradley became a provincial cabinet minister in 1949, and was appointed to the SENATE in 1953. The site is open from late spring to early fall and gives visitors a sense of the life of a well-to-do outport family in the late 1930s.
