Kébec-Disc Inc

Kébec-Disc Inc. Recording company founded in Montreal in 1974. Guy Latraverse, its first president, was succeeded in 1976 by Gilles Talbot. After Talbot's accidental death in March 1982 the company ceased its activities, Latraverse having left Kébec-Disc a year earlier. Besides the Kébec-Disc label, the firm owned the Solution, Gatsby, and Le Nordet labels. For a time it also held the Tréma, Flèche, and Frog labels. Among the artists who recorded for Kébec-Disc were Robert Charlebois, Luc Cousineau, Yvon Deschamps, Marie-Michèle Desrosiers, Diane Dufresne, Pauline Julien, Diane Juster, Alain Lamontagne, Jean Lapointe, Claude Léveillée, Robert Paquette, Paul Piché, Ginette Ravel, Zachary Richard, Fabienne Thibeault, the duo Jim (Corcoran) et Bertrand (Gosselin), and the group Offenbach. In Quebec Trans-Canada Musique Service Inc has distributed the Kébec-Disc catalogue - except for the LP Starmania, which was handled by Solo Distribution; in Paris the catalogue was represented by RCA, which looked after most releases in France, Switzerland, and Belgium. After the closing of Kébec-Disc, Trans-Canada Musique continued to release recordings under the label Kébec-Disc (or Kébec-Disque).

In 1979 Kébec-Disc handled the commercial release of the six LPs entitled Musique du Québec (Kébec-Disc KDM-967-972). Containing 108 songs by Quebec composers (adapted for orchestra by nine arrangers, including Marc Bélanger, Michel Brouillette, and Gaston Rochon), these recordings of background music were a creation of the official publisher of the province of Quebec and were produced by Stéphane Venne. Kébec-Disc won the Félix Award for best record producer of 1979.
