Joseph-Marcel-Rodolphe Plamondon, tenor, teacher (b at Montréal 18 Jan 1876; d there 28 Jan 1940). After cello and voice training in Montréal and early success as a church soloist, Rodolphe Plamondon continued his musical education in France. Prior to WWI he appeared frequently in opera roles. However, his reputation rests primarily on his proficiency as a concert and oratorio soloist, which kept him in constant demand with Europe's leading choirs and orchestras until the late 1920s. Plamondon's concerts often included music by Canadian composers. In 1925 and 1926 he made several recordings of French songs for Starr, some of which have been re-released on Analekta. Plamondon's singing tours brought him to Canada only rarely, but he returned to Montréal permanently in 1928 and taught there until his death.
