John Valentine Clyne, lawyer, judge, business executive (b at Vancouver 14 Feb 1902; d at Vancouver 22 Aug 1989). After graduating from University of British Columbia and articling in Vancouver and London, England, Clyne was called to the BC Bar in 1927.

John Valentine Clyne, lawyer, judge, business executive (b at Vancouver 14 Feb 1902; d at Vancouver 22 Aug 1989). After graduating from University of British Columbia and articling in Vancouver and London, England, Clyne was called to the BC Bar in 1927. He developed a specialty in maritime law and in 1947 was appointed chairman of the new Canadian Maritime Commission. In 1950 he returned to BC as a judge of the Supreme Court but resigned in 1957 to become chief executive officer of MACMILLAN BLOEDEL LTD, the largest lumber producer in Canada. Following retirement in 1973 he remained active in public life in such capacities as chancellor of UBC, chairman of a federal Consultative Committee on the Implications of Telecommunications, and commentator on constitutional matters. In 1987 Jack of All Trades: The Memoirs of J.V. Clyne was published.
