Jarman Publications Ltd. Established in Toronto in 1947 by Harry E. Jarman (b London 28 Jun 1902, d Toronto 12 Sep 1987), who settled in Canada in 1924. Jarman was editor and advertising manager ca 1926-9 for Musical Canada and program director during the 1930s for radio station CKGW. He worked as a producer and arranger for radio station CRCT, for a short time was general manager of Dominion Music Supply in Toronto, and in the last years of the decade operated the Harry E. Jarman Music Co. While associated 1939-47 with Boosey & Hawkes (Canada) Ltd, he was responsible for the establishment of that company's music and instrument departments and for the Boosey & Hawkes Artists' Bureau. He then established Jarman Publications Ltd in Toronto, publishing Canadian material only and specializing in piano, choral, and square-dance music. The square-dance books, edited by Jarman, appeared in the Cornhuskers Series and were among the company's most profitable and popular items. In June 1979 Harry Jarman retired and his son John assumed responsibility for the business, but the company ceased to operate in 1980.

Among the firm's educational publications were Olive Bentley's Piano Course (1961) and The Zdenka H. Picha Piano Method (1973). Jarman published compositions and arrangements, mostly for young musicians, by Boris Berlin, G. Roy Fenwick, William France, Cyril Hampshire, Charles Peaker, and others. The firm was an agent for Belwin, Inc, and other foreign publishers. Harry Jarman was chairman of the CMPA 1952-3.
