Guy Huot. Administrator, editor, organist, b Ottawa 21 Mar 1943, d Paris 9 Jun 2002; BA (Ottawa) 1962. He was organist 1960-8 at St Joseph's and St Charles' churches in Ottawa. After 1963 he was a guest organist for special ceremonies at the Ottawa Roman Catholic Cathedral. In the early 1960s he was a freelance music critic for the Ottawa daily Le Droit and served 1960-2 as Ottawa president and Ontario representative to the national council of the JMC. Huot was head of music 1966-73 for the Canada Council and music administrator 1973-5 of the NAC. He also was a member of several boards, including that of the Canadian Music Council 1973-5, the Ottawa Choral Society 1979-86, and the Ontario Choral Federation 1986-7. From 1976 to 1987 Huot was secretary general of the CMCouncil and editor of its quarterly, Musicanada. He organized the annual ISCM festival, World Music Days, held in Toronto and Montreal in 1984, was secretary to the ISCM's Canadian section, and served 1983-5 on the ISCM's international board. He was a first vice-president of the Organisation of American States' Consejo Interamericano de Musica (Inter-American Music Council), and president 1984-7 of Ottawa's Espace Musique Concert Society. Moving to Paris, Huot was executive secretary of the International Music Council (UNESCO) 1987-89, and its secretary general 1990-2002. He also edited that organization's publication, Resonance, and wrote program notes, reviews, and articles for Canadian and international publications, notably Opera Canada, for which he was Paris correspondent until his death. He was a member of the International Music Critics Association.
