Eugene (Casjen) Cramer. Musicologist, educator, tenor, b Davis, S Dak, 22 Nov 1935, naturalized Canadian 1980; B MUS (Yankton) 1957, M MUS (Yale) 1964, PH D (Boston) 1973. He studied voice with Ida Clawson Hunt, Blake Stern, and Martha Longmire; composition with Nadia Boulanger; musicology with Gustave Reese and Murray Lefkowitz. He taught 1957-61 at Garretson (S Dak) Public Schools and 1964-70 at Park College (Parkville, Mo), where he became department chairman in 1967. He joined the faculty of the University of Calgary in 1973 and in 1984 became head of the Department of Music. He was a music reviewer for The Calgary Albertan 1976-80 and served on the Calgary Region Arts Foundation 1980-8. As a singer he is known for his Lieder recitals and oratorio performances, including Haydn's Creation, Handel's Judas Maccabeus and Messiah; Bach's Mass in B Minor; Monteverdi's Vespers of 1610, and Mozart's Coronation Mass.
