Duquette, Ellsworth
Ellsworth Duquette. Bass, b Phoenix, NY, 25 Jun 1862, d Montreal 18 Oct 1922. Endowed with an exceptional voice, he received some instruction from Georges W. Cornish, the organist and choirmaster of Erskine Church (later Erskine and American United) in Montreal, and studied solfège with his father. Throughout his life he was active as a singer in Montreal and the USA while working as an accountant. He was one of the soloists in the premiere of Henri Miro'sMesse solennelle, and sang the title role of Contant's Caïn at its premiere the following year. Duquette made frequent guest appearances 1895-6 with the Couture MSO and 1904-5 with the Goulet MSO. In 1918 he was president of the Association des Chanteurs de Montréal. He was the grandfather of Marcelle Gagné.
