Donald Farquharson

Donald Farquharson, politician, premier of PEI (b at Mermaid, PEI 27 July 1834; d at Charlottetown 26 June 1903). A teacher by training, Farquharson subsequently entered the wholesale and shipping business and in 1876 won election to the PEI Assembly as a Liberal.

Donald Farquharson, politician, premier of PEI (b at Mermaid, PEI 27 July 1834; d at Charlottetown 26 June 1903). A teacher by training, Farquharson subsequently entered the wholesale and shipping business and in 1876 won election to the PEI Assembly as a Liberal. He was a member of the government in 1878-79 and from 1891 to 27 December 1901, serving as premier after 1 August 1898. He resigned to contest Queens West successfully in a federal by-election for the House of Commons 15 January 1902 and died while sitting as a member.
