Shea, D'Arcy
Shea, (John) D'Arcy. Violinist, b Montreal 4 Feb 1921, d Vancouver 17 Mar 1994; A MUS (McGill) 1942, L MUS (McGill) 1948. He was a pupil of Rachel Gilbert at the McGill Conservatory 1938-42 and in Paris 1959-60 and of Herbert Menges in London 1959-60. He was second violin of the McGill String Quartet from 1949 to the early 1950s and a member of the MSO 1947-59, 1961-8 and the Toronto Symphony 1972-7, prior to becoming principal second violin with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra in 1977, a position he held till his retirement in 1988.
