Dale Bartlett, pianist, teacher, accompanist (born 10 August 1936 in Lethbridge, AB; died 20 December 2013 in Montréal, QC); ARAM 1983; honorary LLD (Lethbridge) 1984. He studied 1941-53 in his native city with Margaret Stevens and later with Beatrice Foster. During these years he received the silver medal of the RCMT eight times in succession.

Dale Bartlett, pianist, teacher, accompanist (born 10 August 1936 in Lethbridge, AB; died 20 December 2013 in Montréal, QC); ARAM 1983; honorary LLD (Lethbridge) 1984. He studied 1941-53 in his native city with Margaret Stevens and later with Beatrice Foster. During these years he received the silver medal of the RCMT eight times in succession.

On a scholarship from the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music he worked 1953-8 with Vivian Langrish at the RAM, and received the Macfarren gold medal in 1958. The following year he studied at the Accademia Chigiana in Siena with Guido Agosti and Alfred Cortot. He won first prize at the 1961 G.B. Viotti International Competition in Vercelli, and also was a prizewinner at the 1962 Busoni International Piano Competition in Bolzano. He made several tours for the JM in Europe and also toured for the JMC in Canada, as a soloist 1964-5 and 1965-6, and with the violinist Hyman Bress 1966-7. Winner of the grand prize in the 1964 JMC national competition, he also received the prize for the best interpretation of the prescribed Canadian work, Jacques Hétu'sVariations. He performed Liszt's Concerto No. 1 in 1964 with the MSO, and the Khatchaturian Concerto 26 Feb 1968 with the Calgary Philharmonic. He was the soloist on two notable occasions with CBC Montreal orchestras: in Rachmaninoff's Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini in 1964 on the TV program 'L'Heure du concert' and in Liszt's Hungarian Fantasy in 1977 on 'Les Beaux Dimanches'. He has accompanied several singers and instrumentalists, including Donald Bell, Anna Chornodolska, Angèle Dubeau, Gaelyne and Taras Gabora, Hélène Gagné, Arthur Garami, Eleonora and Yuli Turovsky and Robert Verebes. In 1972 he became the official accompanist of the Montreal International Music Competition. He became a member of the Hertz Trio with Talmon and Yaëla Hertz in 1977. In 1979 he became accompanist and chamber player at the Domaine Forget in Ste-Irénée, Que, and a member of the Concordia Chamber Players. He began teaching at McGill University in 1983 and taught at the Hull Cons 1967-78 and at the University of Ottawa 1978-87.
