Bird, Charles
Charles (Albert) Bird. Conductor, administrator, french hornist, b Beccles, Suffolk, England, 31 Jul 1890, d Stratford, Ont, 8 Dec 1961. He joined the British army in 1906, studied at the RMSM (Kneller Hall), and served in India. In 1924 he took his family to Stratford, Ont, where he became a shop foreman for the CNR. Bird conducted the CNR Employees' Band and Orchestra until the early 1950s, was president 1930-40 of the Stratford Music Festival, and served as secretary and president of local 418 of the AF of M.
