Festival mondial de folklore de Drummondville. Annual festival held in Drummondville, Que, during 10 days in July and devoted to all aspects of traditional art: music, dance, and exhibitions. Founded in October 1981 following an agreement between the Mackinaw folk ensemble, the Carrefour socio-culturel Drummond and the Canadian Folk Arts Council, it became the first folklore festival in Canada with an international character. From its second year it was accepted by the International Council of Folk Festivals of UNESCO. It has been recognized as the first in the world where attendance is concerned, with an estimated 650,000 visitors per year. The performances have featured some 30 companies from all over the world. They have been held at Woodyatt Park, at the Marcel Dionne Centre, and at the city's Cultural Centre. More than 300 events have taken place each year.
