Alison Ruth Gordon, novelist, journalist (b at New York, NY 19 Jan 1943). Educated at Queen's University, she worked for CBC radio and television and as a sportswriter for the Toronto Star.

Her experiences covering the Toronto Blue Jays from 1979 to 1983 are recounted in her first book, Foul Balls: Five Years in the American League (1984), and they inform her mystery novels, which feature sportswriter and amateur sleuth Kate Henry. In the first of these mysteries, The Dead Pull Hitter (1988), Henry investigates murder, drugs and blackmail surrounding the fictional Toronto Titans in the heat of a pennant race. The novel has been followed by four others. In her most recent work, Prairie Hardball (1998), Henry is in Saskatchewan and investigates the murder of her mother's baseball teammate.
