Lemuel John Tweedie, lawyer, politician, premier of NB (b at Chatham, NB 30 Nov 1849; d there 15 July 1917). After developing an extensive law practice Tweedie served as surveyor general and provincial secretary before becoming Liberal premier in 1900.

Lemuel John Tweedie, lawyer, politician, premier of NB (b at Chatham, NB 30 Nov 1849; d there 15 July 1917). After developing an extensive law practice Tweedie served as surveyor general and provincial secretary before becoming Liberal premier in 1900. One of the most popular men ever to hold office as premier, his outgoing personality and entertaining oratory made him an institution on the Miramichi at the turn of the century. At the same time he was a shrewd and opportunistic political operator and an able lawyer. After 7 years in office he was lieutenant-governor until 1912.
