Joseph Nevin Doyle. Journalist, organist, singer, composer, b Belleville, Ont, d there 1916. Little is known about his life, but in 1895 he was city editor of the Belleville Sun.

Joseph Nevin Doyle. Journalist, organist, singer, composer, b Belleville, Ont, d there 1916. Little is known about his life, but in 1895 he was city editor of the Belleville Sun. His works include the music for the play or operetta Cingalee, the libretto and music for The Golden Age, and the comic opera The Enchanted Garden, work on which was interrupted by his death. The Golden Age, an 'opera bouffe,' was presented in Belleville and early in 1915 at the Royal Alexandra Theatre in Toronto. The Canadian Journal of Music (Feb 1915) judged it a 'creditable and meritorious effort'. One of its songs, 'Forbidden Fruit,' was published in 1911.
