George John Blewett, philosopher (b at St Thomas, Ont 9 Dec 1873; d at Go Home Bay, Georgian Bay, Ont 15 Aug 1912). English Canada's first native-born philosopher, he turned down job offers from the US, preferring to teach at Victoria College, Toronto (1906-12).

His books The Study of Nature and The Vision of God (1907) and The Christian View of the World (1912) reflect the developing Canadian culture in their emphasis on the concept of community and on nature as a life force in need of protection. His students influenced succeeding generations and his works are still quoted by teachers, clergymen and philosophers.
