André (Marcel) Mignault. Cellist, teacher, b Montreal 22 Dec 1931; premier prix cello (CMM) 1952, premier prix cello (Paris Cons) 1955. After taking theory lessons from his father, Alfred, he studied cello 1946-52 at the CMM with Jean Belland and 1952-5 in Paris at the Conservatoire with André Navarra. He was a member 1955-7 of the Ensemble Jean-Philippe-Rameau with J.-P. Jeannotte and others and a member 1958-72 of the MSO; he played in recitals and on CBC radio and TV. He was appointed to the staff of the Conservatoire de Hull in 1968 and also taught 1970-5 at the University of Montreal. During the summers of 1977 and 1978 he gave courses at École de musique de Charlevoix, Que. He has made recordings of Scarlatti and Rameau cantatas with Jeannotte, and he and Bruno Laplante made an LP of works by Massenet.
